Research Experience for Medical Students
Medical
students interested in this research elective should contact the Associate Dean
for Students. Students will be
enrolled in the elective by written consent of the faculty.
Goals: This
rotation will expose the student to the research opportunities available in the
Department of Microbiology and will be offered year round with the prospective
consent of the departmental faculty member. The type of research, either clinical or basic science, will
be customized for the student depending upon the faculty preceptors and students
mutual interests.
Objectives:
At the end of the experience, the student will understand many aspects of
research, such as how to propose a research question, construct a research
project, conduct appropriate research and assess and evaluate the results.
Description:
The student and research faculty will work together in designing an
individualized project per the students interest. The extent of the project will be determined mutually, and
approved by the faculty preceptor.
Evaluation:
The student will be evaluated based on students interest and effort during the
research rotation with a final grade based on the preceptors evaluation.
