MIC
789-00 Journal Club in Biological
Crystallography – Dr. Mark Walter
The BCJC
revolves around a weekly literature review that focuses on papers that use
single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques to solve important questions in
structural biology. The
participants are encouraged to focus on the methods that allow the problems to
be solved. These areas include
novel methods of protein expression and purification, crystallization, X-ray
data collection, phasing, refinement, and structure analysis methods. Critiques are made on the quality of
the structures presented and how structural information is best presented in
scientific journals. Emphasis is
also placed on novel techniques that synergize with crystallographic techniques
leading to new insights into protein structure and function. As needed, the journal club will focus
on historically important papers in methods development of protein
crystallography.
