Biography
Susan Rich, Ph.D., is recently appointed Associate Dean for Life Sciences in the Graduate School, and Professor in the Department of Microbiology. Before coming to UAB in early 2005, Dr. Rich was Professor of Microbiology and Immunology in the Department of Microbiology and Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Education at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
Prior to joining Emory in 1999, Dr. Rich was a faculty member of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, beginning in 1973. At Baylor she also held positions as Co-Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program and Director of Graduate Studies in Immunology, and served on NIH Immunology(IMB) and NIAID Allergy and Clinical Immunology study sections. Her research addressed regulation of T cell proliferation and cytokine production by CD8+ T cells. Dr. Rich received a BS degree from Beloit College and MS and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Baylor College of Medicine respectively.
She is a member of the American Association of Immunologists and the AAMC Graduate Education and Training Group and serves on the Training and Career Opportunities Subcommittee of FASEBs Science Policy Committee.
