Biography
Mark R. Walter, (b. 1962) Associate Professor of Microbiology, received his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Biochemistry in 1989 with Dr. Steve Ealick. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Walter completed his postdoctoral studies with Dr. Charles Bugg in the area of structure based drug design and initiated research in cytokine structure and function. Dr. Walter joined the Pharmacology faculty in 1992 where he has continued his research on cytokines. Dr. Walter also serves as an Associate Scientist, Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Cell Adhesion and Matrix Research Center at UAB. He is a member of the American Crystallographic Association and serves as a consultant for Schering Plough Research Institute. His outside interests include cycling, volleyball, water and snow skiing.
